Prevention, Sealants and Fillings
With all the new and exciting areas dentistry now serves, there are still very basic things most people associate with dental care: preventative dentistry and fillings. Because we are focused on you in our practice, it is important that you know we always seek the best plan in treating any dental problems you have and also for preventing dental problems. With more than half a century of success, fluoride application is a service we provide to children and adults as part of our prevention program.
Pit and fissure sealants have become a highly effective way to prevent cavities—by blocking plaque from hiding in the grooves of permanent back teeth. Our materials and processes are based on the latest reliable technology. In addition to children, even adults can benefit from sealant placement.
What everyone used to call “fillings” are now much more conservative, tooth-colored, bonded “restorations” (the tooth is actually rebuilt, not filled like a pothole). When caught early, cavities can now be treated with a minimum of destruction of the tooth anatomy, often without any need for medication or anesthesia!
Dental crowns are tooth shaped caps that are placed over your tooth. Crowns restore strength, shape, size and appearance. Once the crowns are inserted and cemented into place, they fully encompass the visible portion of the tooth above the gum line.
You may need a dental crown if:
- Your tooth is weak
- The tooth is cracking
- Restore a broken or severely worn tooth.
- Support a tooth with large fillings.
- Restore dental implants
- Cosmetic modifications.
- Fix misshapen teeth.
